GEOMETRIP

GEOMETRIP began as an experiment with the aim of translating a precise digital animation into analogue work done entirely by hand featuring 260 unique handcrafted paper collages. Each frame is made with cut paper, glue, masking tape, pencil, pen and marker. The animation is inspired by the beauty of geometry with seemingly three-dimensional figures extruding and rotating on a two-dimensional plane. Every collage has its own imperfections, irregularities and happy mistakes. By photographing each frame one by one, the natural sunlight and shadows were used as an element to highlight the passage of time in the animation, moving through the shot and reminding us of the tangible quality of the project.

LOOPS

PROCESS

Below is a little glimpse of what it was like to make GEOMETRIP. I spent a lot of time cutting little pieces of paper, pasting it all together with masking tape, drawing on top of it and adding lines where it felt right. Each frame was different to the next, 260 times over. It was a lot of fun. It was very satisfying to get to do something with my hands, to be able to touch and feel the materials I was working with. It was a very organic process and a lot of the decisions were made as I was moving forward with each frame. I guess I wanted to showcase the value of human error and happy mistakes through experimentation. Cant wait to do more :)
